Making a Difference at Mooseheart and Beyond
At Mooseheart, giving back is at the heart of our mission. Our students actively contribute to their community and beyond, learning the value of service and leadership. As part of their scholarship program, each student is required to complete 27 hours of community service annually, instilling a strong sense of responsibility and a deeper connection to those they serve. Additionally, we are fortunate to have strong partnerships that support our mission and enhance our efforts, making it all possible.
Student-Led Giving Back Initiatives
Feed My Starving Children
Mooseheart students actively volunteer and raise funds for Feed My Starving Children, helping to pack meals for children in need around the world. Through their efforts, students contribute to this important cause, gaining valuable experience while making a positive impact on global hunger. This partnership allows them to not only raise money but also volunteer their time to directly help those in need.
Big Brother Big Sister Program
The Big Brother Big Sister Mooseheart Program is a special initiative that pairs older students with younger ones to offer mentorship, support, and companionship. The older children step into the role of role models, guiding their younger peers through the ups and downs of life. This relationship is built on trust and care, and it helps foster personal growth, leadership, and a deep sense of responsibility in both the mentors and the children they mentor. It’s a powerful way for our students to make lasting, positive impacts on each other’s lives, creating a supportive community that will stay with them long after their time at Mooseheart.
Youth Awareness Congress
For over 25 years, Moose International and Mooseheart have proudly led the Youth Awareness Congress, a program that empowers high school students to become leaders and educators. Through our speakers’ bureau, students educate younger children on important topics such as drug and alcohol abuse, bullying, “stranger danger,” peer pressure, and healthy habits.
Through Moose KidsTalks presentations, these dedicated students have reached over 750,000 children across North America, making a lasting impact. Additionally, participants have the opportunity to compete for $30,000 in annual college scholarships, furthering their academic and personal growth.
Yellowstone Conservation Camp
Each year, we select two students for the incredible opportunity to participate in Yellowstone National Park’s Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) program. This month-long adventure combines conservation work, outdoor education, and leadership development in the stunning Yellowstone landscape.
Participants gain valuable skills while working on projects like trail maintenance and wildlife preservation. We are especially proud that one of its students has been invited back as a leader, a beautiful reflection of the growth and impact this experience has had on them.
Senior Class Community Service
Each year, Mooseheart’s senior class gives back by visiting Moose organizations and lodges to assist with various projects, including beautifcation efforts at lodges, landscaping and outdoor maintenance, supporting local food pantries, and volunteering at thrift stores.

Canteen – Give a Heart Day
Each year, Give a Heart Day brings joy and excitement to the Mooseheart community through our valued partnership with Canteen. With hundreds of attendees, the day is filled with fun—roller rinks, games, makeovers, and more—creating unforgettable moments for Mooseheart kids. Canteen’s team goes above and beyond, providing a delicious buffet and care baskets, ensuring every child feels special. Their generosity and dedication make this event a highlight of the year, filling Mooseheart with laughter, connection, and the true spirit of giving.
Go Green with Kohl’s
Each year, Mooseheart proudly partners with Kohl’s for the Go Green event, a day dedicated to service, sustainability, and community. Hundreds of Kohl’s associates from across Illinois and Indiana join Mooseheart students to beautify the campus—planting, pruning, and enhancing the grounds for all to enjoy. Beyond their hands-on efforts, Kohl’s provides generous financial support, reinforcing their commitment to making a lasting impact. This partnership not only strengthens Mooseheart’s mission but also inspires students to embrace the value of giving back, ensuring that the spirit of service continues for generations to come.
