Mooseheart junior Shawn McReynolds drives for a layup in the Ramblers Senior Night victory over Paw Paw. McReynolds scored 8 points in the game.

Isaiah Brigman makes contact with a Paw Paw defender as he takes a jump shot in the Mooseheart's 51-43 victory over Paw Paw. Brigman, a Ramblers freshman, was called for an offensive foul on the play.

With Mooseheart leading handily in the final minute, Ramblers coach Ron Ahrens was able to play his entire bench. That meant senior Sean Duffy, a student from the United Kingdom who is living and studying at Mooseheart this year, got to play in the final minute. It was the first time Duffy had played for the varsity this season.

MOOSEHEART, IL, Feb. 12 -- There is an old saying that teams want to be playing their at their best by the end of the season.

Mooseheart's boys basketball team is working hard to make that saying come true. The Ramblers, a .500 basketball team just a week ago, have forged a four-game winning streak and stand 12-9 entering Friday's big showdown with Westminster Christian at the Mooseheart Fieldhouse.

Thursday, Mooseheart conquered Paw Paw 51-43, a win that was significant on many fronts. For one, the Ramblers lost to the Bulldogs in the first meeting between the teams. Secondly, Thursday's game showed the continued improvement of junior forward Jonell Crump. In a late-season scoring surge, Crump has scored in double-digits the last three games, including his 15-point performance against Paw Paw.

"I think Brandon (Moreno) and I have developed a chemistry on the court," Crump said. "He's a senior and I'm a junior but we play our game well with each other and understand how we play."

Moreno led all scorers with 16 points. Munir Smith was the third Ramblers player in double-figures with 11 points.

"Not just (Moreno) and I, but everyone on the court - we know each others' strengths and weaknesses and we're working hard to improve."

Mooseheart led the vast majority of the game with Paw Paw and survived a late rush to close out the win on Senior Night. This allowed Mooseheart coach Ron Ahrens to play all his seniors.

"We're starting to play some halfway decent defense," Ahrens said. "I'm really happy with that."

Mooseheart keyed its fastbreak offense through solid rebounding. That rebounding also came into play on the offensive end as well, as there were sequences of two- and three-shot series for the Ramblers.

"One thing Jonell Crump does for is is that he's active on the offensive boards," Ahrens said. "If we keep rebounding like we are, we're going to be in games."
