Led by lineman Deonta Cartman (No. 61), Mooseheart senior running
back Martin Gutierrez (10) gains yardage in the Ramblers season-opener with
North Shore Country Day.

Mooseheart senior running back Shawn McReynolds (21) breaks
away on a long run in the second quarter of the Ramblers 21-0 victory over
North Shore Country Day. Unfortunately, the play was negated by a Ramblers
penalty.

The combination of warm turf and cool air above it led to fog
forming in the later stages of Mooseheart's game with North Shore Country Day.
Never a problem for visibility, the fog led a somewhat surreal look to the
fourth quarter action. Shawn McReynolds lines up defensively in the midst of
the mist.

MOOSEHEART, August 28 -- Certainly Mooseheart's
football team made some mistakes on Friday night. That's
the nature of season-opening games.
But the Ramblers minimized those miscues and put together
an overall solid effort in a 21-0 victory over North Shore
Country Day.
"I really have nothing to complain about," Mooseheart coach Gary
Urwiler said. "We did a nice job tonight. We played hard and we responded
and we executed. It was a well-rounded job by everybody."
While nothing has been decided as to the eventual outcome
of this year's football season, the feeling as the team left
the field was certainly positive.
"It's a great feeling," Mooseheart senior Damion Moore said. "It's
my senior year and it's great to get the first one. The next one's coming up,
and we'll take them step by step and we'll see how we do in the next games."
In recent years, Mooseheart's football team has built a very
solid foundation with its running game.
And certainly Friday's 21-0 season-opening victory over North
Shore Country Day was predicated on the Red Ramblers solid
ground attack.
Yet there was no denying that one of the key plays of the
contest was Mooseheart's second touchdown, a 20-yard TD connection
between quarterback Isaiah Brigman and Damion Moore. The
play, which came midway through the third quarter, put the
Ramblers ahead 14-0, a gap that was never seriously threatened.
"We've been practicing that little screen pass for a little bit," Urwiler
said. "The good thing is that (Brigman) didn't feel the backside pressure.
The timing worked and it was very successful. It was set up very nicely."
That drive was set up when Shawn McReynolds intercepted a
pass and gave the Ramblers possession at their own 35. Not
only did that interception halt a promising North Shore Country
Day drive, it kick-started not only Mooseheart's offense
but its defense as well.
"That was a real game-breaker for us," Moore said. "That boosted
the intensity for us. We boosted it to another level."
Mooseheart's ground game was certainly dominating. Moore
gained 74 yards on 15 carries while Martin Gutierrez added
64 yards on 15 carries.
"We've been working really hard on timing," Moore said. "We've
been hitting the (blocking) sled a lot. The linemen, I just can't thank them
enough. I don't know what to say. It was the linemen tonight."
Gutierrez got the Ramblers off to a strong start when he
capped his team's opening drive by going in from the 2-yard
line.
"The first drive, we took it down there and scored," Moore said. "We
kept up the intensity from start to finish and we did what we had to do."
Moore's touchdown gave the Ramblers a key two-score lead.
Brigman scored on a 39-yard run in the fourth quarter to
complete the scoring.
