MOOSEHEART,
IL, Sept. 25 -- There are always
things football coaches want to see in their team, regardless
of the opposition - and the first of these is an honest
effort.
Mooseheart took the field on Friday against winless Christian
Liberty and applied the same 100 percent effort it brought
to the previous four games of the season. And the result
was a needed victory. The Ramblers won 41-0 and can now
look ahead to next Saturday's key Northeastern Athletic
Conference contest against Alden-Hebron.
"Obviously we wanted to get at it real quick," Mooseheart coach
Gary Urwiler said. "We did. It was less than two minutes when we got a
score in. We did what we were supposed to do and I can't be any more pleased
than that."
The Ramblers (4-1, 4-1 NAC) face a tough second half of
the season, but kept themselves in contention for postseason
football.
"We're happy with the way it is," Urwiler said. "We're 4-1.
Now our next four games are going to be pretty tough. We have a tough one next
against Hebron . We'll hope to put together a good game plan. We certainly
respect them. But we'll be ready."
Christian Liberty (0-5, 0-5) struggled offensively, turning
the ball over three times. Next up for the Chargers is
North Shore Country Day, which is also winless this season
heading into Saturday's game with undefeated Rockford Christian.
The Ramblers took the lead within 63 seconds of game time
when Martin Gutierrez scored from 5 yards. The Ramblers
doubled their lead when quarterback Isaiah Brigman ran
in from 9 yards midway through the quarter. The hosts took
a dominating 21-0 lead before the first quarter ended on
a Damion Moore 9-yard run.
Moore scored again from 10 yards late in the second quarter.
The senior finished with 84 yards on 9 carries and led
all rushers in the contest. A safety took Mooseheart's
lead to 29-0 and the half ended soon after Brigman ran
in from 20 yards.
Backup quarterback Jonathon Hart scored the only points
of the second half when he plunged into the end zone from
3 yards with 8:54 left to play.
Mooseheart gained 197 yards, all on the ground. The Ramblers
only threw one pass and had seven rushers carry the ball.
As the second half progressed, the Ramblers substituted
liberally.
"We haven't had a whole lot of JV games," Urwiler said. "It
was nice to get them in. They did it in front of a crowd and here under the
lights. It was a big deal for them and I thought the JV did a nice job."
