One of the strongest earthquakes to hit Illinois struck in early morning hours of Friday, April 18.
However, the 5.2-magnitude earthquake did no structural damage to buildings on the Mooseheart campus. And other than perhaps being awakened by a little rumbling, none of the residents of the Child City suffered any ill effects.
The earthquake occurred six miles southeast of West Salem, IL and 45 miles west of Evansville, IN, according to the Associated Press. West Salem is 290 miles south of Mooseheart.
The AP also reported residents as far away as Atlanta, but also in Midwestern cities such as Milwaukee, Cincinnati, Louisville and St. Louis feeling the earth shake from the temblor, which occurred just before 4:37 a.m. local time.
