Citizenship and patriotism came together in this year's Mooseheart remembrance of Veterans' Day, which was conducted on Friday, Nov. 7.

The entire population of the Child City gathered in the House of God for a ceremony that remembered those who have served in the U.S. military, those who have died while serving as well as those who have died while representing their country militarily.

The ceremony was marked by time-honored traditions, such as the playing of Taps by a solo trumpet player - this year, senior Nathan Chavez.. This year, the entire student body gathered together to sing "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" together with the Mooseheart band. .

Mooseheart senior Krystal Ellsworth, the Commanding Officer of this year's Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC), delivers one of the readings at Mooseheart's Veteran's Day ceremony. Ellsworth served as emcee of the event, introducing the various speakers and musical performances which took place in the ceremony.

Steve Schmidt leads the Mooseheart band in a medley of the songs which represent each of the five branches of the U.S. military, the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and the Coast Guard. As the song representing each branch was played, that branch's flag was brought into the House of God and veterans from that branch of service were asked to stand.

When the service's flags were in place, the U.S. flag was marched into the House of God and the audience stood to sing "The Star Spangled Banner."

Mooseheart junior Robin Young delivered a stirring version of Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA."

Near the end of the service, Mooseheart senior Nathan Chavez played "Taps" on the trumpet.

At the close of the service, the entire Mooseheart student body sang "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" under the direction of music teacher Kristin Shuman and band director Steve Schmidt.
