Mooseheart's girls basketball team got off to a dream start this fall, winning its first four games. The Red Ramblers then hit a speed bump at the Genoa-Kingston Holiday Tournament, where they lost all three games they played in the round-robin competition.
But the team is still 4-3 with two games to play before it hits its Christmas vacation break.
"We told the girls coming in that the tournament was a series of highs and lows," Mooseheart coach Bryan Miller said. "We came into the tournament on a high. The first night (vs. Somonauk) just got away from us. The second night (vs. Genoa-Kingston), we got fatigued in the fourth quarter. (Wednesday), we played a good team and just got beat."
Mooseheart features a balanced attack that likes to fast-break if given the opportunity. Point guard Jasmine Barnes is also one of the team's leading scorers. The senior scored a team-high 11 points in the Red Ramblers 50-34 loss on Dec. 13 that completed their participation in the Genoa-Kingston tournament.
"We were able to get a couple of quick baskets on them," Miller said. "But they were solid and we didn't get too many fastbreak points."
Mooseheart sophomore Basheeba Mays scored 9 points against South Beloit and senior Adrianna Pinto scored 8 points providing a balanced attack.
Red Ramblers fans made the trek to Genoa to support their team in the tournament. Oregon Home students attended one evening's play while Minnesota Home residents were in attendance when the team played South Beloit. |
