Mooseheart, IL, Oct. 25A Mooseheart football season that started with a contest that was originally postponed by lightning ended with a game in which the opposition generated four quarters of offensive electricity. That opponent was Rockford Christian Life, a team which averaged 52 points in its previous three victories. And the Eagles were right on that recent scoring average on Friday, when they secured a 53-14 road victory.

"We knew this was a team you couldn't go blow for blow with, especially with our inconsistency both offensively and defensively," Mooseheart coach Gary Urwiler said.

The defeat was Mooseheart's third in a row and ended the team's hopes of a third straight postseason berth. The Ramblers conclude the 2013 campaign 4-5 and 4-5 in the Northeastern Athletic Conference.

"When you look back at the season and your first three wins came in the first three weeks, and you finish with one win in the last six weeks, that's tough," Urwiler said. "I wish this would have been different for all our seniors."

Christian Life (8-1, 8-1) won its eighth straight game, jumped to a 14-0 lead and never trailed. The Eagles rushed for 423 yards and added a further 106 passing yards in a dominant offensive performance.

Yet Mooseheart stayed in the game for the first quarter and into the second quarter. Christian Life opened the scoring on a 34-yard touchdown run by Rodney Quansah and then a 5-yard keeper by quarterback Brady Pond.

But then Mooseheart drove and scored on a 22-yard tackle-breaking run by Joe Feemorlu, who finished the game with 74 rushing yards on 11 carries. That touchdown was the first surrendered by Christian Life since their Sept. 14 contest against Luther North. Since then, the Eagles have recorded four shutouts and gained a forfeit win from Alden-Hebron.

"You know, they haven't been scored on," Urwiler said. "I think we were doing some things offensively and we were pushing pretty hard."

Christian Life responded and Pond scored on an 8-yard run. Mooseheart answered with a drive to the Eagles' 11 before Isaiah Jones intercepted a Willie Nicholas pass in the end zone.

"We felt pretty good that we responded and started driving down the field," Urwiler said. "We did so with some enthusiasm, which was good to see. Unfortunately, we came up short there in the end zone. We were probably getting a little bit greedy. We threw one we probably shouldn't have done."

Christian Life needed 11 plays to move 80 yards and scored on a 12-yard pass from Pond to Josh Moza. The Eagles scored the next four touchdowns to open a wide margin, though Mooseheart scored the last touchdown of their regular season when Ricky Crawford picked up a fumble and ran 40 yards midway through the fourth quarter.

"We went into the season knowing it was going to be a rebuilding year," Urwiler said. "To almost go .500, I'm not disappointed in that. I'm disappointed that we didn't get better week to week. But that's something that we have to take care of internally."
