MOOSEHEART, IL, Oct. 5Ahead 16-0 at halftime thanks to a pair of long touchdown plays, Mooseheart seemed on its way toward a Homecoming victory over Alden-Hebron.

But the visiting Giants had thoughts of their own in this Northeastern Athletic Conference clash, rallied with three touchdowns in the second half and two TDs in the fourth quarter to upend the Ramblers 23-16.

"I thought we withstood some drives in the first half," Mooseheart coach Gary Urwiler said. "Our defense, when it came time to do it, held them up and made some big plays and kept them out of the end zone."

The shift started from the first drives of the second half. Mooseheart (4-2, 4-2) ran three plays, gained 2 yards and punted. Alden-Hebron (4-2, 4-2) took the ball on its 30-yard line and moved 70 yards in 10 plays and got on the scoreboard when Cody Nelson ran in from the 12-yard line.

Mooseheart moved the ball on its next drive before an interception set the Giants for what proved to be the game-tying score when Nick Beck ran in from the 1-yard line 45 seconds into the fourth quarter.

The Ramblers continued to struggle offensively and Alden-Hebron took advantage of a Mooseheart fumble to score the final touchdown of the day on a Nate Peterson 4-yard run with just 40 seconds left in the game.

"We made some adjustments at halftime," Urwiler said. "Not necessarily defensively, but we made some adjustments offensively. It wasn't a matter of us not being able to move the ball. But coming out for the third quarter, we ran three plays and that wasn't good."

Mooseheart moved the ball in the first half and took advantage of a number of Alden-Hebron turnovers. For the game, the Giants lost four fumbles and had a pass intercepted.

It was from one of those turnovers that the Ramblers took the lead when Brandon Gadson picked up a fumble and raced 69 yards to score with 10:16 left in the first half. Mooseheart's other touchdown came five minutes later when Joe Feemorlu raced 66 yards after breaking through the line of scrimmage. Feemorlu finished the game with a season-high 127 yards on 15 carries.

"We played well," Urwiler said. "We say we always want to play and be able to score from every facet of the game if we can. I thought we played really well. Unfortunately, we didn't get any points in the second half. I felt we played decent in the second half, but we made too many mistakes."

The defeat leaves Mooseheart 4-2 entering a difficult final third of the season, starting with Friday's trip to defending NAC champion Ottawa Marquette.

"We've got some health concerns," Urwiler said. "We have some physical health concerns but also we're concerned about some things like our team unity. We've got some work to do this week and hopefully we'll be able to tackle that together and come back with a new attitude. Games  like this hurt and sting a lot."

Saturday's Homecoming contest brought together Moose members from many states along with a large number of Mooseheart graduates. Those alums gathered on the field at halftime for a photograph. The men and women of the Moose showed their support with a number of financial presentations on Saturday morning at various sites across the campus.

"How could you not be excited and just thrilled about our Moose members," Urwiler said. "The stands were all packed with people wearing red and there were people from a number of states here all yelling and screaming. They give their means and substance to our cause and so it's a special day."
